" Inspire Early Intervention" was started in August 2015, and is a genuine passion of mine.
My name is Lorna McInnes, Im Scottish and came to Australia in 2010, after 20 years in Taupo, New Zealand where I ran a successful Naturopathic clinic.
After moving to Australia, I continued my naturopathic practice in a beautiful little place called Nhulunbuy, Northern Territory, before working and studying part time in Special ed. ( Primary, Preschool and Transition) I gained my Cert 3 and 4 in education support and special ed support and did every available course on ASD, Trauma and Disabilities.
After a few months, I was offered a full time position as Special Ed assistant to a beautiful 12 year old girl with Druvets syndrome and ran my Naturopathic clinic in the evenings.
I then went on to become a permanent DECs Special Education Assistant for East Arnhem region for the next 2 years and run my clinic on weekends.
When the Gove refinery closed, my partner and I decided to base ourselves ( forever) in beautiful Cairns. I continued to study and travel for a year, and used this time to absorb and reflect on the fact that I myself had Autism which was a massive relief to me, to be able to put a reason to "everything" I'd worked on in my life. Autism was not talked about in the 60s so my Mother didnt tell me I was diagnosed at 6 years old, until just before she died two years ago when I told her I suspected thats what I had.
Yes, I'm also on the Spectrum and have taught myself and learned many strategies in the areas of ASD, sensory and emotional regulation, OCD, ADD, ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, eating, digestive and intolerance issues. Its certainly been an amazing journey.
Since I was 6 years old, I have always tried to bring a positive from every negative , no matter how difficult, and when I look back, with all the connections, realisations, education and experience I have gathered on this amazing journey, I decided I would help children on the spectrum to discover, understand themselves and the world around them, create routine and balance in their lives, to become the healthiest , happiest, connected little people they can be.
Last year I went to the " Minds and Hearts" Seminar where I listened to Professor Tony Attwood and Dr Michelle Garnett for the first time talk about Aspergers. As I listened, I built up an overwhelming realisation that I felt like they were talking about me, in magnificent detail !!!
I was blown away and suddenly understood the real meaning of that last piece on the ASD jigsaw puzzle. I felt whole for the first time in 51 years, so Im forever grateful to them.
I have now combined my knowledge in Special Education and mainstream education support, a Naturopathic Diploma, 17 years of clinical Naturopathic practice, a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care, an ABA Therapist certificate , becoming a Certified GAPS Practitioner and many other Aspergers/ ASD/ Trauma related certificates with my wealth of understanding and experience in ASD, emotional and sensory regulation and, after being accepted as a private Early Intervention Service Provider under DSS HCWA, created " Inspire Early Intervention".
My professional memberships also include ACNHP (Australian Charter of Natural Health Practioners) for Natural Medicine, SNTR (Senior Fellow in Naturopathy) Homeobotanical Therapists Association, ABIA and ABIQ (ABA Therapist) ECIA (Early childhood Intervention Australia) and ECA (Early Childhood Australia), amongst others.
Im more than happy to share my current CV by email on request.
